Chapter 6: Heart & Soul (Pt.5)

Taylor awoke with a start. It was late at night, and the digital clock sitting on a nearby dresser proved her right. She threw the blanket that covered her off of her body. The sound of thunder boomed, startling her. She stared out of her window with tired eyes. "I can't sleep with this weather," she mumbled to herself.

She grabbed her blanket again and slipped under it. She pulled it up to her neck and rested her head on a pillow. Taylor stared up at the ceiling, listening to the rain and the occasional sound of thunder. For a few minutes, Taylor focused on a single spot on the ceiling. Her eyes began to droop. Slumber stole her away after another minute or two. She shifted in bed slightly.

A soft, humming sound echoed within her room. It became louder and louder. Taylor awoke as it reached a low roaring sound. She sat up in bed, staring around her empty room. The constant sound soon became a loud, screeching hiss that echoed. She brought her hands to her ears and shut her eyes. "What's happening!?" she called out.

She could hear words even with the roaring sound. "Peter," it hissed. "Ahh. You're not there anymore, Peter? It seems you have found another vessel for your pathetic power. Remnants of your energy still float in this one." Taylor opened her eyes, scanning the room for the speaker.

"Who are you?" she asked softly. The roaring became louder, and she dropped her head on the pillow to try and block the sound.

"She can hear me. I guess this is the girl you tried to protect for Michael's sake. No wonder I couldn't kill her at that first encounter with Michael." Daniel appeared before Taylor. She stared at him with a frightened gaze. Daniel held his hand out to her.

"Come with me, girl. The only protection you had has abandoned you. The only guardian who cares for you is busy. I'll... 'protect' you, girl. There are bad things in this world."

Taylor's eyes widened. She was entranced by an unknown power. She got off her bed slowly and placed her hand in his. Daniel chuckled. He grabbed her tightly. The roaring suddenly ceased. Taylor, speechless, was too scared to move. Daniel shut his eyes as his body began to disappear. Taylor's eyes began to darken with a purple hue.

Daniel faded away. Taylor fell to the ground in a heap. An hour passed slowly. Suddenly, Taylor awoke with a start. She stared around her room, looking at it oddly. She rubbed her eyes then crawled back into bed as if nothing had happened.

The sound of a child laughing echoed within her room.
